Good news and bad news, dear friends. Good news is I won't be doing Life, like I obviously should be. I used an Unforgivable on another human being, that's Life, but I've got a pass on that. The bad news is I don't know how long I will be staying. I've got a good solicitor, who's working for nothing, which is good because nothing is all I've got. A friend of Auror Waters of all people. Like he's suddenly my biggest fan. I still don't know what he's up to. Anyway, she (the solicitor) is a bit of a dork, but she looks optimistic.

I guess I should be too, so I will.

I'm actually still studying for my NEWTs. Just the textbooks, I can't do any practical, but it's something to do. I don't know. It's not so bad. I mean it is bad, it's prison, but it's not like I never expected this to happen. I always figured I'd end up in jail.

I don't miss much, but I do miss you, Su. Terribly. Imagine that. Ha ha.

Oh, and Sally-Anne, I heard you're out, or getting out or something? Good on you! How's that, roles reversed. Send me something crappy.

So.. this month we have a Quidditch rematch to look forward to-- wait, it's Hufflepuff and Ravenclaw. Guess I was wrong about that. And a career fest. That should be interesting. I wonder if there'll be any Death Eaters, marked-and-masked, giving out pamphlets on the benefit package of an evil murdering malcontent.

The career fest reminds me though; NEWTs are coming up and coming up fast. Then once they're done.. we're gone. Graduated. Out there. What happens next? Even if there wasn't a bloody war going on, it's still something to wonder about. Some of us have to wonder about it more than others. Sometimes I like to worry about what the hell I'm going to do when I graduate, if I live long enough to do anything significant. I don't like thinking about this. I'd rather not.

I'm allowed to ramble. If that Ravenclaw can go on about how quiet the train was and "ooh, it's scary out there", I'm allowed to go on about life outside these walls.

I wonder if anything is really going to change when it comes to pure-bloods and, uh, not-pure-bloods. They say the squeaky wheel gets the grease, and all those years, decades, of shouting about the unjust way they were being treated (Muggleborns and half-bloods, I mean) and we now live in a society where the mere notion of something "ancient" and "traditional" sends chills down our collective politically-correct spines. What exactly are "Dark Arts?" Has anyone bothered to figure this out? No one else seems perturbed that every year more and more aspects of magic is being relegated into forbidden "Dark Arts" territory? I get that there's magic that no sane person should ever perform, but I've heard some people talk about making Obliviation an Unforgivable. Where does it end? There'll be a time when the Forbidden Section is all that's left of the library.

Dumbledore said he wanted us all to get along. That means pure-bloods too, doesn't it? The ills of our world can't all be our fault, can it? Yeah, I know, You-Know-Who. So condemn us all, then. The Houses are supposed to be united, yet what do people think of when they think of Slytherin? An absentee Founder? The Chamber of Secrets? Severus Snape? Practically every Death Eater there ever was?

Maybe a little help, instead of the finger-pointing. Not the kind of cure that kills the patient either.

I don't know. Nothing's changed. Two of the most powerful men in the world are gone, and nothing's changed. How's this supposed to be good news?

I never thought I'd admit this, but I am feeling rather lonely. Of sorts. With Sally-Anne in jail (I don't know if they allow you the use of your journal in jail, Perks, so I've sent you a letter.), Draco wherever he is and whatever he's doing, and Pansy hardly anywhere to be seen, I feel as if I'm the only Slytherin left using the journal network.

I'm even starting to miss that little freak, Dobbs. I guess she's "misplaced" hers as well.

I don't know why this bothers me. I'm not lonely, at least where I am and who I'm with, but there's something to be said about the bond of House Loyalty. Nobody else gives a shit about us. In fact, they'd rather see us and our House gone. Ultimately we've nobody else but ourselves.
